Private tutor in Wilmington, NC

Education

High School Diploma cum laude from Durham Academy Upper School in Durham, NC. Emergency Medical Technician certification from Cape Fear Community College Current Senior French and History major at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Experience

My background: I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in May of 2013, a process that honed my leadership and teaching skills. I worked for two summers at Claytor Lake Aquatics Base, a BSA camp in Virginia, where I was employed as a Health Officer. Although my primary duties were medical, I also taught classes on sailing, first aid, and lifeguarding. Currently, I study History and French at UNCW. I specialize in military history, which requires a broad knowledge of global geography and politics. I was raised bilingual with French, and am only one class away from completing that major. I have always believed that any student can succeed at anything they work hard to achieve, and I hope that my skills as a tutor can help to guide them through any difficulties they may encounter along the way. My goal as a tutor is to help the student understand the "how and why" behind an answer, rather than just giving the answer and moving on. In my time working with the Boy Scouts, I adopted the "Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable" method of instruction, which I find works with any subject and with just about any student.
