I hold a Master of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My graduate work was completed in a biophysical chemistry laboratory. My undergraduate degree is from Agnes Scott College, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. I spent time studying in Japan while in undergrad, at Temple University Japan and Kinjo Gakuin University. I completed additional work in science at UNC Asheville prior to matriculating for my graduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill.
Experience
Hello! I would be delighted to work with you to improve your chemistry abilities. Under my maiden name (Laura Benton), I taught General Chemistry (Chem 101 and 102) and Biochemistry (Chem 430) at UNC Chapel Hill for five years after receiving my master's degree. Additionally, I have experience teaching lab courses at the collegiate level in general chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. While a professor, I also tutored high school students in regular and honors chemistry. After getting married last year, I moved to this area with my husband, and now am teaching science at the Friends School of Wilmington. While I enjoy my current position, chemistry is my all-time favorite subject to teach, and I really miss instructing students at the high school and university level.
